Life in Death

I slept over my friend’s place this weekend, and she lives with a Pastor and SMN. I was really blessed while staying there, because I could feel a spiritual comfort and sense of joy in the household… even though I did not meet the Pastor until I left their house to go back home.

Their house was decorated in a Korean style, and it was also filled with Bible verses and the SMN’s beautiful beautiful paintings. They had a sculpture with St. Francis’ famous prayer, and it really struck a chord with me… I had read it before, but today it is an even deeper, meaningful, and relatable prayer for this season of my life. Every sentence is applicable, and a beautiful prayer to pray to our Father.

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen.

St. Francis
